Jonathon Safran Foer’s book Tree of Codes relishes the physicality of paper and the ways in which it can be manipulated for enhanced value. Each page is die-cut to reveal only certain words – taken from The Street of Crocodiles by Bruno Schulz – in a printing technique that reveals a message in patterns.
This is one of those technical, pushing the envelope constructions that made publishers shy away until he found a CONFIDENT one.
